Come to Independence, MO for some great music and “secret” tours during your next long, holiday weekend. Memorial Day will be celebrated on May 27th, 2019 and we have some wonderful plans for you at Hawthorn Bed & Breakfast.
Check out all the events happening on the Visit Independence website. On Saturday, May 25th, 2019, there are three events mentioned on the site. The first event is the Independence Uptown Market. The Farmers’ Market will be in full swing by the last weekend of May with vendors offering fresh produce of the season, BBQ sauces, jellies, plants, and baked goods. All the vendors selling goods at the market must have produced the product or produce within 100 miles of Independence. So you will be buying “the real thing” – locally grown or made! For the most up-to-date scoop on the Farmers’ Market, check out their FaceBook page. Start your day at the market where they open at 6AM! Then you can return to the B&B for breakfast (it’s only 8 minutes away) and prepare for your next adventure of the day.
For the second part of your Saturday, enjoy a free tour of some historic sites in Independence that are normally closed to the public. The “Secrets of the Sites” Tour is being presented by the City of Independence as part of Historic Preservation Month. The Vaile Mansion, the Bingham Waggoner Estate, and the National Frontier Trails Museum are all included in the day’s activities. You will see nooks and crannies of the historic homes and see how displays and exhibits are prepared at the Trails Museum. After learning all these secrets, return to the B&B for a short rest, find a place for dinner at one of Independence’s outstanding local restaurants, and prepare to be entertained in a big way!
Travis Tritt and The Charlie Daniels Band Outlaws & Renegades Tour will be THE event for the evening at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena! The show starts at 7pm with special guests The Cadillac Three. While this band may be thought of as “the warm-up group”, The Cadillac Three has quite a reputation of their own and have been playing together for 15 years!
Travis Tritt is a name very well known in country music circles and has been producing recordings since 1990 when he released his first album, “Country Club”. Some of Tritt’s performances are simply “A Man and His Guitar” as he sits on a stage, starts playing his acoustic guitar, sings directly to his audience, and just communicates with his fans. He’s been performing for over 27 years and does not appear to be slowing down at all. You can follow Tritt on FaceBook and see tiny glimpses of his personal life too. For the concert in Independence, his full band will be there all with another famous country singer, Charlie Daniels.
Charley Daniels is a lot more than a cowboy with a guitar and a song! Did you know that he is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of “The Journey Home Project”– a support project for vets returning home from recent and current war duty assignments. Probably the most famous Daniels’ song, “The Devil Went down to Georgia”, is celebrating its 40thanniversary!!! Charlie was already performing for 26 years before winning the Grammy award for Best Country Vocal for this classic. In 2008, Charlie celebrated 50 years of music and was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.
Writing two books is also among Charlie’s accomplishments. “Let’s All Make the Day Count” is a sharing of his country wit and wisdom along with lessons learned during his musical travels and experiences. His second book, “Never Look at the Empty Seats” is a memoir that has not yet been published but is available for pre-orders.
This concert evening will be filled with great country music and wit & wisdom from legends in the music world! Get your tickets NOW!
After a busy Saturday, you may want to just kick-back on Sunday before the long weekend ends. After breakfast, take a hike on one of the city’s hiking trails or play a round of golf. Then you will be refreshed and renewed from your Memorial Day getaway at Hawthorn Bed & Breakfast. Make your reservation soon!
